Eastern Market Reopening
When a fire gutted the building in 2007, the city's residents rallied around its oldest continuously operating market to make sure it would be renovated and around for years to come. National Capital Barbecue Battle
It isn't really summer until the meat hits the grill. And if you want the taste without the work, head to the National Capital Barbecue Battle Saturday from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. on Pennsylvania Avenue between Ninth and 14th streets. 'Buy Local' Block Party It doesn't matter where you live; you are invited to Silver Spring's Buy Local Block Party Sunday from 1 to 4 p.m. Far hipper than your run-of-the-mill neighborhood celebration, this party features DJs, bands, a beer garden and plenty of local stuff to buy and eat. Carnival Science Day School might be out, but it is possible for kids to learn about science anywhere, even at a carnival. The Maryland Science Center will host a Carnival Science Day Saturday from noon to 4 p.m. complete with face painting, juggling classes and hands-on activities to show how important science is to all sorts of carnival attractions.
